Day 1 - We’re off and running

TedGalley.jpg - 42825 Bytes With sustained winds of 25 knots and gusts to 30, we decided to depart. Winds were predicted to abate over the next few days, and we were anxious, so off we went. To my surprise we had a send off crowd of 12 people. This interfered with my planned briefings, but it was much fun to have a festive departure. The new commodore of the East Port Yacht Club even blessed our boat with special holy water. As part of our departure ceremony, we raised our official flag, “The eye of Ra.” It was a challenging beginning, but an excellent opportunity to test our heavy weather sailing in the relatively protected waters of the Bay. We spent the entire night with a triple reef in the main and a staysail, no jib. Even with this minimal sail configuration, we regularly sailed at hull speed of 7.3 knots and often saw speeds as high as 8.0 knots. With our excellent speed, we will be at the mouth of the Bay this morning. There was no sea sickness, but there was some queasiness. The crew has taken to calling me El Supremo! Today’s photo features Ted preparing our first onboard meal Full Circle, Chicken Florentine.
