John Masefield

1878 - 1967

Sea Fever was published in 1902 in a collection of poems called: Salt-Water Ballads. Masefield spent his early youth on a ship but did not really care for the sea life. He was made Poet Laureate of England in 1930 and served until his death in 1967. He was selected over such other famous poets of his time as Yeats and Kipling. Masefield is most famous for his narrative poem: The Everlasting Mercy published in 1911.
