| The country is obsessed with what they call the Big Five. These are considered to be the must see animals, and they are the images used on the bank notes. It is not clear if theses animals became must sees after the currency was designed or if the bank notes were designed around the Big Five. At any rate, the T-shirts, hats, place mats, bags, and a million other souvenirs are focused on these five animals. We saw all of them except the leopard. Besides not seeing a leopard in the wild, we never saw a 200 Rand bank note in circulation. Maybe there's a connection. |
