DelMarVa Sailing Trip

September 29 - Octomber 5, 2001

Sailed around the Delware/Maryland/Virginia (DelMarVa) Peninsula (470 Miles)

Sailed north from Rockhall, MD in the Chesapeake Bay, through the C&D Canal ino the Delaware River. We entered the Delaware Bay and continued on into the Atlantic Ocean. Once there, we continued off shore for about 50 miles where we encountered ever increasing winds with gusts of 50 knots. A page of our log book during the gale is included. When we entered the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay near Norfolk, we encountered 15-20 foot breaking waves five miles from shore with our Island Packet 45 surfing down the waves like a boogie board. We certainly were glad when when finally docked in Little Creek at around two am. The remaining days of our sail were extremely pleasant with a fascinating stop at Tangier Island.
