Mat boards come in a standard size of 32x40 inches. As of 3/98, mat sheets cost approximately $4.00 for non acid free and $8.00 for museum quality acid free. From one 32x40 sheet, you can cut 16, 8x10 mats at a cost of 25 to 50 cents each. Just by doing your own matting you will be able to save up to 75% on the cost of framing. You will be able to do for about $25 dollars what cost $100 in a frame shop. Besides you get the satisfaction of doing it your self. As for the time required, you will be able to do a first class frame job in about 30 minutes, the time it takes you to drive to the frame shop.
