Hinging the Backing Board

Step by Step Procedure

  1. Cut the foam board to the same size as the frame and mat.
  2. Lay the mat on top of the foam and position it with the top furthest away from you.
  3. We will now make a hinge to connect the mat to the foam. Lift the mat up as if it were hinged at the top and fold it over. Cut a piece of acid free tape just less than the width of the mat. It will be used to make a hinge connecting the mat to the backing foam. Acid free tape is not critical here since it never comes in contact with the picture, but since everything else is acid free, introduce anything non-acid free. Stick with quality and be safe.
  4. Tape the top edge of the backing to the bottom side of the top edge of the mat. The backing and mat are now hinged.
  5. Fold the mat down over the mat and make sure they are properly aligned.
