Ernest Wentworth

1859 -1945 (Funeral)

Ernest Wentworth was the first child born to Edwin Wentworth and Gianetta Hall in 1859. He grew up on a fram in Mitchell, Iowa where his father homesteaded in the 1860's. It was here that he married his first wife Katherine (Kate) Crowley. They had two sons who died in childbirth followed by twin girls, Nettie and Nellie. A relative of Kate's who owned a saloon in the south side of Chicago and was a ward politician there talked them into moving to Chicago. Kate died of pneumonia while pregnant with their fifth child. She and the child are buried in Calvary Cemetary in Chicago. Since Kate was Catholic and Ernest was not, one of Kate's sisters from Sioux City, Iowa took the twins and raised them. Nettie married Peter Duff. John (son of Jim Kelly) stayed with Clarence Duff (son of Nettie and Peter) in New Orleans on his way to Air Force ROTC summer camp in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1965. It was John's first big trip away from Minnesota. At the time, he never understood how he was related to Clarence, some kind of half great uncle's cousin. Nellie married Oscar Vancamp, a candy maker in Springfield, Kansas.

After Kates death, Ernest moved to Tomahawk Wisconsin where his sister Elsie Beabeau and her husband Charles Bebeau lived. It was here that he met and married his second wife Nellie "Mabel" Jean.
