Joseph Jean

1838 - 1913

This photo was taken in 1872 at Joseph's wedding at the age of 34. His wife Eunice was 19 at the time. View Marriage Certificate.

The Jean family is French. They settled in Quebec, Canada, and there in Our Lady of Lords Church are the family records. Joseph was born in Green Island, Canada. The family later moved to Bay City, Michigan where most of the family is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery. Joseph owned and operated lumbering camps in Wisconsin and Michigan. He also owned a farm which he used primarily as a residence. His brother Dominic was a Great Lakes sea captain. Joseph died of rectum cancer and was one of the first persons to be operated on at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Since his wife Eunice was not a Catholic (she was a French Heugonot), the family records state that he was without issue (no children).

Both Joseph and Eunice are burried in Prarie Farm, Vanceburg, Wisconsin.

The above information was orally obtained from Eunice Wentworth Beams in 1972, the grand daughter of Joseph and Eunice Jean. Eunice Josephine Wentworth Beams was named for her grandmother Eunice Taylor Jean and her grandfather Joseph Jean.
